When we visited Japan, like any other hardcore tourist there, we spontaneously signed our souls away and challenged ourselves to try every single flavor of Kit Kat we can possibly lay our fingers on. Among other phenomenal things Japan is famous for, this country is known for producing over 300 flavors of Kit Kat ranging from Wasabi to Rum Raisin since 2000. Therefore the moment we landed, we didn’t miss a single opportunity to scout out every metal shelf we came across that held bags or boxes of Kit Kat. Unfortunately, we quickly realized our mission was harder than we thought after visiting over a dozen stores just to learn they more or less carried the same handful of flavors everywhere. After traveling from east to west, climbing high to low, and leaving no rock unturned, we can now proudly call ourselves apprentice tasters of Kit Kat.

Shokoku Gotochi Plaza (諸国ご当地プラザ)
Kit Kat Chocolatory
The flavors we picked up here were Pistachio & Raspberry, Champagne Raspberry, Strawberry Maple, Butter and Green Tea & Kinako. Also available, but we didn’t purchase, were the ‘I Love Fruits’ 5 fruit flavor variety pack (Strawberry, Blueberry, Raspberry, Yuzu, and Passion Fruit) as well as the Sublime line of premium Chocolate in milk, white and bitter chocolate. The Sublime chocolate is described on Kit Kat’s website as “an exquisite cocoa … ensemble that utilizes couverture chocolate carefully selected by the patissier Takagi.”
The store also features a neat display of Kit Kat’s history since 1935.
Most selections here are offered in gift boxes and may run a little more expensive than outside options. Here are prices of each item:
The Kit Kat Chocolatory counter is located in the basement level of the Daimaru department store connected to Tokyo Station in Chiyoda. If you’re visiting other major cities in Japan, you may find a branch there as well. Check out Kit Kat’s Japan website for more information.
Narita Airport
Narita Airport was another location where we found Kit Kat flavors that we didn’t see anywhere else throughout Tokyo. If you are taking a flight out of Narita Airport than it may be worth it for you to check out the stores inside of it. The one we found that carried a generous selection was just outside of the ANA Suite Lounge entrance.
At this location we found Hokkaido Melon and Sakura Matcha. Some stores carry it in small boxes (3 pieces) while others like the store above sold bulk size boxes for 1,500 Yen which comes with 10 small boxes of 3 for a total of 30 pieces. The bulk sizes make great souvenirs as you will have 10 individual boxes to give out. The pricing is fair and best of all, your purchase is tax-free if flying international.
GIFTrip by Japan Duty Free

Located on the 4th floor of Aqua City is a store called GIFTrip where you’ll find Kit Kat for sale. The flavors you’ll find here may be similar to the ones you can find at Shokoku Gotochi Plaza but here you may find more size options for a slightly cheaper per piece price. The 12 count boxes sells for 800 Yen here while the 30 count boxes (similar to the ones sold in the airport) sells for 1,500 Yen. I would however only recommend you to make the visit here if you were already in Odaiba as the metro fare to travel into the island will cost you 820 yen.
Those are all the stores we recommend hitting up. Our favorite flavors of Kit Kat were Sakura Matcha, Cranberry & Almond, Sake, and any of the Green Tea ones.
