Chan Kee: Roast Goose

Sham Tseng Chan Kee
Address: G/F, 63 Sham Tseng Village, Castle Peak Road, Sham Tseng, Hong Kong (Other Location: Mong Kok)
Price: $

Roasted goose is a treat that no one should skip out when they are in Hong Kong. Sham Tseng is an area of Hong Kong renowned for its roasted goose. Sham Tseng Chan Kee is a restaurant we would recommend trying. Although we ventured out to Sham Tseng as we were visiting some family in the New Territories area, you can also have Sham Tseng Chan Kee in Mong Kok.

Chan Kee: Store

The roasted goose is seasoned and roasted to perfection. It is served with duck sauce (plum based) although it is flavored enough to do without. The outside is crispy, fatty, flavorful goodness while the meat inside is juicy and succulent. Most people will have it over rice as the grease and flavors of the goose falls onto the rice making it extremely delicious. Some will have it with noodles, but I would say that rice is definitely the better option for this dish.

Chan Kee: Roast Goose

Although roast goose isn’t the cheapest meal, it isn’t expensive either especially if you are not requesting for the roast goose leg specifically.

Chan Kee: Roast Goose

Across all roast goose restaurants, the leg is in higher demands so expect to pay for more and not get the leg from a normal over rice order unless you ask for it specifically. We ordered two orders of regular goose breast over rice but the owner was nice enough to upgrade one of our orders to a goose leg free of charge. We were delighted to have gotten a taste of the more flavorful cut.

Chan Kee: Roast Goose Drumstick

For those of you that like roast duck or peking duck, roast goose is definitely a must as in it quite similar in taste and equally, if not more satisfying.
