Walking in the streets of Sham Shui Po, you will come across many local eateries. For those who are adventurous and want to try something different, Shia Wong Hip has got a menu for you. How about some snake soup while sitting around with cabinets full of snakes?
Snake soup is a Cantonese delicacy believed to have many health benefits. Although it was once a very popular dish in Hong Kong, less and less eateries remain as the younger generation moved on to other careers and it is becoming more and more difficult to find successors in preparing these snake soups.
The soup itself is a thick soup. It is extremely delicious and flavorful as it is boiled for hours with spices and other ingredients such as mushrooms, onions, lemongrass and many more. The snake itself is a lean type of meat and in comparison, it is probably the most similar to chicken. A bowl runs for less than $10 USD and is extremely hearty.
If you feel more adventurous, you can even try the snake bile and take it down as a shot.
