Want something hearty, light and flavorful? Kau Kee is a must try for us and we have returned multiple times for their beef brisket noodles. Located in the side streets of Sheung Wan, not too far off Queen’s Road, sits this small and old-school yet delicious eatery. The queue for this restaurant can be daunting, especially in the summer heat but it is definitely worth it.

Kau Kee: Original Brisket Noodle

Their beef brisket is extremely tender and extremely light. The meat starts to shred apart with a jab of the chopstick. While the beef is not heavily seasoned, each bite of the beef explodes with a rich, beef-y flavor. The broth is extremely clean and light tasting which goes extremely well with the great taste of the brisket. The noodle itself completes the perfect bowl.

Kau Kee: Curry Brisket Noodle

Now, if you don’t want light, they also have a heavier curry-based beef brisket noodle. The brisket is very similar in texture, but the broth and sauce in which it is served with differentiates this dish. The curry while is rich, it is not overpowering. You are still able to get the beefy taste from the brisket. The noodle absorbs the curry broth really well.

Either of these bowls would make an extremely satisfying meal. If the wait is long in a hot summer, send someone across the street to Sing Heung Yuen to grab a cup of iced Hong Kong milk tea while waiting!
