If you know a good deal about Hong Kong, you’ll know that pineapple bun (bo lo yau – 菠蘿油) is a classic pastry to have for breakfast or a snack in this mutli-faceted city. Kam Wah Café 金華冰廳 in Prince Edward is rated as one of the top places to serve up the pineapple bun complete with a slab of butter in the center.

Kam Wah: Butter Pineapple Bun

The pineapple bun is one of the classic foods of Hong Kong and was a listing on the Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage list. The bun itself does not have any hint of pineapple but resembles the look and texture of pineapple. The top of the bun is actually more of a thin cookie texture that is crunchy and sweet while the bun itself is soft and airy. Fresh from the oven, it gives off a delicious bread smell that makes you just want to start munching. We would recommend trying it with the slab of butter inside which is very popular in Hong Kong and cost $10HKD. It makes the toasty bun even more enjoyable.

Kam Wah: French Toast

If having one item with a slab of butter is not enough, Kam Wah Café also serves the Hong Kong style French Toast ($20HKD) which is essentially a thicker French Toast sometimes with filling such as condensed milk or peanut butter and deep fried served with butter on top. Got you drooling yet? Well you have got to try it out. It is worth every bit of calorie added to your body!

Pairing a Hong Kong style milk tea with either of those items will put a smile to start anyone’s day. Kam Wah Café also serves other food as well such as sandwiches, rice and noodles if you are looking to try other dishes.
